Who We Are:
Established in 2013, we are a 501(c)(3) volunteer-run, foster-based rescue serving the Oklahoma City area and surrounding rural and underserved communities. We do not operate a physical shelter; instead, every dog and cat in our care is placed in a foster home where they receive individualized attention, structure, and socialization in a home environment. Our network of dedicated volunteers provides daily care and support, allowing us to respond to urgent needs and take in animals requiring additional medical attention. Each pet is fully vetted and prepared for life in a permanent home.
Our Mission:
Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs and cats from rural and under-resourced communities across Oklahoma, with a strong focus on the Oklahoma City area and surrounding communities, including small-town and municipal shelters. We prioritize animals most at risk due to illness, injury, or systemic barriers to adoption. Through a foster-based model, comprehensive veterinary care, and behavioral support, we improve animal welfare outcomes and reduce euthanasia rates. We believe every life has value—one by one, until there are none—and we are working toward our ultimate goal of being put out of business, when every animal has a safe, permanent home.
Friends of the Shelter Foundation is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization
